This policy explains what capshak stores in your browser and why. The short version: we do not use advertising cookies or third-party ad trackers. What we store is there to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and make the editor work on your device.
Cookies and browser storage
Cookies are small pieces of data a website saves in your browser. Browsers also offer other kinds of storage that work in a similar way:
- localStorage keeps small pieces of text, such as settings.
- IndexedDB keeps larger data, such as files.
capshak mainly uses these two. Unlike cookies, they are not sent to our server with every request. They stay in your browser until they are cleared.
What we store in localStorage
| Name | What it is for |
|---|---|
capshak-access |
Your sign-in token, so you stay signed in |
capshak-refresh |
A token that renews your sign-in when the first one expires |
capshak-locale |
Your language, Persian or English |
capshak-style |
A caption style you picked in the style gallery on our website, used once for your next new project |
capshak-panel-open |
Whether the editor’s side panel is open or collapsed |
capshak-timeline-height |
The height you gave the timeline |
capshak-captions-view |
Whether the Captions panel shows lines or the transcript |
These are needed for the site and the editor to work as you expect. Without the sign-in tokens, you would have to sign in on every page.
What we store in IndexedDB
Because capshak edits your video in your browser, it keeps some data on your device:
- Local copies of your videos, pictures and audio files you add to a project, so the editor can open them again without asking for the file.
- Waveform data (peaks), so the timeline loads faster.
- Your fonts: fonts you add under “My fonts” stay only on that device.
This data does not leave your device unless you turn on video backup for a project. See our Privacy Policy for what backup does.
What we don’t use
- No advertising cookies.
- No third-party ad trackers or social media tracking pixels.
- We do not sell or share what is stored in your browser.
Payment pages
When you buy credits, you are sent to the payment page of Zarinpal or Stripe. Those pages are run by the payment providers, and they may set their own cookies, for example for security and fraud prevention. Those cookies are covered by their own policies, not this one.
How to clear this data
You can remove everything capshak stores in your browser at any time:
- Sign out to remove your sign-in tokens from that browser.
- Clear site data in your browser settings. In Chrome and Edge, open the site settings for capshak and choose to clear data. In Safari, go to the privacy settings and manage website data. In Firefox, open the privacy settings and manage cookies and site data.
Clearing site data also removes the local copies of your videos and your uploaded fonts on that device. Your projects stay safe on your account, but the editor will ask you for the video files again unless they are backed up. Private or incognito windows clear this data when you close them.
Changes
If we start storing something new that matters for your privacy, we will update this page and the date at the top.
