The timeline shows your edit from left to right, with one row per track: Text, Effects, Captions, overlay tracks, audio tracks and the main Video track. The playhead marks the current time.
Split, trim and delete
- Move the playhead to where you want to cut.
- Press S or click Split to cut the clip in two.
- Drag a clip’s edges to trim it, or use Trim start here / Trim end here in the Edit tool.
- Select a clip and press Delete. The gap closes by itself.
Duplicate (⌘D or Ctrl+D) copies the selected item. Restore full video in the Edit tool brings back everything you cut.
Speed and freeze frame
- Select a clip and set its Speed in the Edit tool, from 0.25× (slow motion) to 4×. The voice keeps its pitch in the preview.
- Press F or click Freeze frame to hold the frame under the playhead as a still clip. Set its Freeze length.
Add more to the edit
- Videos: in the Edit tool, click Insert video at playhead to add B-roll, an intro or another take.
- Overlays: in the Overlay tool, lay a video or picture over the edit for picture-in-picture, split screen or B-roll, on up to 8 tracks. Overlays have size, rotation, crop, rounded corners, border and Chroma key for green screen.
- Texts: in the Text tool, pick a style to add a title at the playhead, then drag it in the viewer.
- Audio: in the Audio tool, add music, sound effects or a voice-over you record in the browser, on up to 6 audio tracks. Auto-ducking lowers the music while someone talks.
- Stickers, GIFs and sounds come from the Assets tool.
Drag a block to move it and its edges to change its length. Blocks snap to each other and to the playhead.
Select several items
- Shift-click or ⌘-click (Ctrl-click) to add items to the selection.
- Shift-drag on empty timeline space to select with a box.
- ⌘A (Ctrl+A) selects all items of a kind.
You can then move, delete, duplicate, copy (⌘C) and paste (⌘V) them as a group. ⌥⌘C and ⌥⌘V copy and paste a style between items.
Undo and shortcuts
- Undo with ⌘Z (Ctrl+Z) and Redo with ⌘⇧Z (Ctrl+Shift+Z). A whole drag or slider move is one step.
- Press ? to see every keyboard shortcut. Space plays and pauses, and the arrow keys step one frame.
- Right-click (or long-press on touch) any item for more actions.
Tips
- Cutting by text is often faster. See Text-based editing.
- Or describe the edit and let the AI editor do it.
