You can translate your captions into 20 languages, including English, Persian, Arabic, Turkish, Spanish, French, German, Russian, Hindi, Urdu, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Each translation is its own caption track with the same timing as the original.
Add a translation
- Make sure the project has captions. If not, see Make captions.
- Open the Captions tool and switch to the Translate tab.
- Pick a Target language and click Translate.
- Wait for Translation added. The new language now appears in the Translations list.
Only the caption text is sent for translation, not your video or audio. Word timings are kept, so word animations like karaoke still follow the speech.
Cost
Translation is included in every plan, into as many languages as you need. See Plans and pricing.
Switch between tracks
A project has one Original track plus one track per translation.
- In the Captions tab, use the Track menu to choose which language you are looking at and editing.
- The track you choose is the one shown in the preview.
How edits travel between tracks:
- Timing changes (moving or resizing a caption) apply to every track at once.
- Text and structure changes (editing words, splitting, merging, adding or deleting captions) apply only to the track you are on.
Choose the language for the export
In the Export video dialog, the Captions menu picks the track that is burned into the MP4: Original or any translation. The Download .srt button saves that same track as a subtitle file. To make one video per language, export once for each track.
Update a translation
- If you change the original captions after translating, the translation shows Captions changed after this was translated.
- Click Re-translate to refresh it, or click Edit and fix it by hand for free.
- Remove deletes a translation. You can undo this.
Tips
- Proofread the original first, so the translation starts from clean text. See Proofread captions with AI.
- Persian and Arabic translations are laid out right to left automatically, and the Persian templates work well with them. See Style your captions.
- Read through a translation before you publish. Names and slang may need a quick fix.
